Flooring names often describe a broad family rather than a complete product. Two planks with similar appearance can differ in core, surface layer, backing, joining system and installation requirements. Ask for a cross-section and product-specific documentation before treating their prices as comparable.

Record the layers separately

List overall thickness, individual functional layers where specified, dimensions, finish and edge profile. Identify whether underlay is attached, separately supplied or excluded. Ask the manufacturer to explain the intended installation method and the conditions required for the product's warranty or performance statements.

Confirm site suitability

Have the installer assess substrate condition, moisture, transitions and any heating-system compatibility. Request the relevant product evidence for the intended use. Avoid treating a general water-resistant description as permission to ignore installation details or moisture management.

Ordering and receiving points

  • Carton coverage and quantity calculation.
  • Shade or batch information for continuous areas.
  • Transition pieces, stair components and edge trims.
  • Storage and acclimation instructions where applicable.

Approve a representative sample assembly rather than judging one loose plank alone. Examine the joint and surface appearance under the planned lighting. Keep spare material identified by product and batch, and discuss later replacement availability before deciding the final order quantity.

AN Sourcing buying notes. These are practical procurement checklists; specifications, service scope and destination requirements should be confirmed for the actual order.
